Early Life and Education

Olena Anatoliivna Romaniv was born in Kyiv, Ukraine to a Russian-speaking family of Lithuanian-Greek descent. She claims to have mastered the Ukrainian language only at the age of 23. As a child, she attended a music school.

In 1995, Romaniv graduated from the Law Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. She also completed her studies at the Central European University in Prague.

Legal Career

Romaniv established a successful legal career. She served as an advocate representing Ukrainian citizens before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. She held various positions within the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice, including Director of the International Law Department and Advisor to the Minister. She also provided legal counsel to committees of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.

Later, Romaniv became the head of Transparency International's Ukrainian chapter in Berlin. This organization focuses on combating corruption worldwide.

Television and Authorship

In addition to her legal work, Romaniv has made a name for herself as a television personality and author. She hosts and produces the cultural program "Document +" on Ukraine's "Studio 1+1" and "1+1 International" television channels.

She has also written for various publications, including "Zhinochomu Zhurnali" and the children's magazine "Sonyashnik." Her contributions span both adult and youth audiences.

Literary Success

Romaniv's literary career took off in 2002 when she won the prestigious "Koronatsiya Slova" (Coronation of the Word) contest. Her novel "Igrashki iz Ploti i Krovi" (Toys of Flesh and Blood) earned her the grand prize.
