Public Service under Clinton
- In the 1990s, Sperling served under New York Governor Mario Cuomo.- From 1993 to 1996, during President Bill Clinton's first term, Sperling held the position of Deputy Director of the National Economic Council.
- Under the leadership of Robert Rubin, then-National Economic Council Director and later Secretary of the Treasury, Sperling advised on economic policies.
- Sperling was later promoted by President Clinton to National Economic Advisor and served as National Economic Council Director from 1996 to 2000.
