Larisa Trembovler: An Israeli Writer, Political Activist, and Historian

Larisa Trembovler is an Israeli writer, political activist, and historian who immigrated from the Soviet Union in 1989. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and is known for her involvement in Israeli politics and her personal life.

Early Life and Education

Trembovler was born in Moscow and graduated from Moscow School No. 57. She went on to study at the Biological and Soil Faculty of Moscow State University before emigrating to Israel with her husband in 1989.

Literary Career

Trembovler has co-authored a novel, "Mirror for the Prince," with her husband, Veniamin Vannikov. The book was published in 1999.

Political Activism

In 2019, Trembovler became the leader of the "Justice" party (Mishpat-Tzedek). One of the party's primary goals is to amend the "Yigal Amir Law," which prevents the release of her husband, Yigal Amir, from prison. Amir was convicted of assassinating Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995.

Personal Life

Trembovler's first husband was Veniamin Vannikov. They divorced in 2003, and she has four children from that marriage. She met Yigal Amir through correspondence and visited him in prison.

In 2004, Trembovler filed a marriage proposal to Amir, who was imprisoned in solitary confinement. They married by proxy in August without the presence of a rabbi from Israel's Chief Rabbinate. In 2005, a rabbinical court validated their marriage.

In 2006, Amir was transferred to a different prison, and the Attorney General of Israel recognized their marriage. They were granted conjugal visits and approval for in vitro fertilization. In October 2007, Trembovler gave birth to a son, who was named Yinin Eliya Shalom.

One of Trembovler's daughters, Avital, married Amitai Amir, Yigal Amir's younger brother. The marriage of Trembovler and Yigal Amir was the subject of Hertz Frank's last documentary film, "On the Threshold of Fear." The film premiered in 2014 at the "Artdocfest" film festival in Riga, Latvia.
