Lars Korvald: Norwegian Prime Minister from the Christian People's Party
Lars Korvald was a prominent Norwegian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Norway from 1972 to 1973. He was a member of the Christian People's Party (KrF).
Early Life and Education
Lars Korvald was born into a Christian family in Mjøndalen, Norway. He attended the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and graduated in 1943.
Parliamentary Career
Korvald entered the Norwegian Parliament in 1961, representing Østfold county. He served for five consecutive terms. In 1967, he became the leader of the Christian People's Party.
Prime Ministership
In 1972, Korvald was elected as Prime Minister, making him the first KrF leader to hold this position. His cabinet held office from October 18, 1972, to October 16, 1973.
During his tenure, Korvald finalized Norway's decision not to join the European Economic Community. He also initiated the country's first oil policy.
Post-Political Career
After retiring from politics in 1981, Korvald served as the Mayor of Moss until 1986. He passed away in 2006 at the age of 88.
