Early Life and CareerLash Guruli was born on August 27, 1996, in Rustavi, Georgia. He began his boxing journey at a young age, quickly demonstrating his exceptional skills.
Amateur Career Highlights
2017 European ChampionshipsGuruli made his mark on the international stage in 2017 when he competed in the European Championships in the 64 kg category. Despite a competitive first-round loss to German veteran Vladislav Baryshnik, Guruli showcased his determination and spirit.
2019 European Games
At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Guruli advanced to the 1/8 finals in the 64 kg category. After a victory over Moldovan boxer Dmitri Galagots, he faced a tough challenge against Turkish boxer Erdemir Tuğrulhan, ultimately falling short.
2019 World Championships
Later in 2019, Guruli moved up to the 69 kg category for the World Championships in Yekaterinburg. He began strongly with victories over Iranian boxer Sajjad Kazemzadeh and Kyrgyz boxer Abdurraman Abdurrahmanov. However, he succumbed to the experience of English boxer Pat McCormack in the 1/8 finals.
2021 World Championships
Guruli's breakthrough came at the 2021 World Championships in Belgrade. Competing in the 67 kg category, he earned his first World Championship medal, a bronze. After defeating Michal Takac and Moslem Mahsoudi Mela Amiri, he narrowly edged out Cuban boxer Kevin Hayler Brown in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, an injury forced him to withdraw from the semifinals.
2022 European Championships
In 2022, Guruli added a silver medal to his collection at the European Championships in Yerevan. He fought valiantly in the 67 kg category, defeating Armenian boxer Gurgen Madoyan and Welsh boxer Ioan Croft in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. However, he ultimately lost to seasoned Russian boxer Vakhid Abasov in the final.
2024 Olympic Games
Guruli continued his impressive run at the 2024 Olympic Games, securing a bronze medal. This historic achievement marked a significant milestone in his career and brought international recognition to Georgian boxing.
