Early Life and Career

Lauren Christy was born in London, England, and from a young age dreamt of becoming a ballerina. At 11, she enrolled in Bush Davies Ballet School, but at 17 she realized her true passion lay in songwriting. She joined Pink Ash, a band consisting of six male members and herself, under the stage name Susie Reptile.

Breakthrough and Debut Album

After a year of seclusion and intensive songwriting, Christy emerged with 15 songs and aspirations for a publishing deal. At just 18, she signed with EMI as a publisher and later landed a recording contract with PolyGram Records. Her self-titled debut album, released in 1993, drew inspiration from techno music and was classified as Adult Contemporary. Two singles, "You Read Me Wrong" and "Steep," were released from the album.

The Color of Night and Golden Globe Nomination

In 1994, Christy wrote the hit song "The Color of the Night" for the Bruce Willis film of the same name. The song appeared on the film's soundtrack and was included as a bonus track on a re-release of her debut album. It earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 1995.

Breed and Musical Evolution

For her second album, Breed, released in 1997, Christy collaborated with Gary Clark in London. The album's sound shifted towards a style comparable to Alanis Morissette and Meredith Brooks. The song "25 Back Then" appeared on the compilation album Woman to Woman 2, with proceeds donated to breast cancer research. "Breed" was featured in the film Batman & Robin.

Post-Breed Career

Despite Breed being her last solo album, Christy continued to contribute to films and television. She discussed plans with Mercury Records for a third album, but the label's dissolution hindered those plans. In 1999, Christy joined the production and songwriting team The Matrix alongside Graham Edwards and Scott Spock. The Matrix penned songs for Avril Lavigne's debut album, Christina Aguilera's My Kind Of Christmas, and artists like Ronan Keating and Sugarlips.

Recent Projects and Collaborations

In recent years, Christy has focused on songwriting and producing for other artists. She has written songs for This Summer I, Vitamin C, S Club 7, and Nicole Smith. She also covered Jason Derulo's song "Breathing" in 2022.
