Lea Katherine Thompson is an American actress and popular director in the United States. She was particularly well-known in the 1990s when she starred in the hit TV series "City" as Carolina, and in the film "Back to the Future" as Marty McFly's mother.

Early Life and Ballet Career
Lea Katherine Thompson was born on May 31, 1961, in Rochester, Minnesota, to singer and musician parents Barbara and Clifford Thompson. Even as a young girl, Lea was known for her talent and artistic abilities. She studied ballet and dedicated three to four hours each day to practice. By the time she turned fourteen, Lea was already dancing professionally. She received a scholarship to study in various ballet schools, including the American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Pennsylvania Ballet. Lea collaborated with different theaters and performed in 45 ballets at the American Ballet Theatre. She also worked with the Minnesota Dance Theatre and Ballet Repertory. Despite being recognized as an attractive dancer, she decided to leave ballet due to frequent injuries and a perceived lack of grace.

Acting Career
At the age of twenty, Lea moved to New York to pursue an acting career. In the early 1980s, she appeared in films such as "Jaws 3-D" and "All the Right Moves." She then went on to star in "Red Dawn" (1984) and "The Wild Life" (1984). However, her most famous role came as Lorraine Baines McFly in the highly popular "Back to the Future" trilogy. In 1986, she played in films such as "SpaceCamp" and "Howard the Duck." Lea also showcased her singing talent in some of her films and even released an album. In the early 1990s, she appeared in movies like "Dennis the Menace" (1993), "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1993), and "The Little Rascals" (1994). During the same period, she starred in TV movies such as "The Substitute Wife" (1994), "The Unspoken Truth" (1995), and "The Right to Remain Silent" (1996). In 1996, Lea Thompson won the People's Choice Award for Favorite Actress in a Television Series.
