Biography of Lee Daniels
Lee Louis Daniels was born in 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is an American actor, director, and producer. After graduating from Radnor High School, Daniels went on to study at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Early Career and Film Productions
Daniels began his career in the film industry as a manager, working with many future famous actors. In 2004, he made his acting debut in the German comedy "Agnes und seine Bruder" ("Agnes and His Brothers").

His first independent production project was the drama film "Monster's Ball" in 2001. The film follows an executioner who takes pride in his profession and hopes his son will follow in his footsteps.

In 2003, Daniels co-produced the drama film "The Woodsman" and in 2005, he directed and acted in the thriller film "Shadowboxer." The film tells the story of professional assassins risking their lives for a target.

Success and Recognition
In 2008, Daniels co-created the drama film "Tennessee," and in 2009, he produced and directed the critically acclaimed film "Precious." The film, based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire, follows an illiterate, overweight African-American teenage girl who gets a second chance at life by attending school. "Precious" received six Oscar nominations and won two, including Best Director.
Daniels continued his successful career with the thriller film "The Paperboy" in 2012 and is set to release the dramas "The Butler" and "Iced" in 2013.
Personal Life
Lee Daniels is openly gay and lives in New York City. He was previously in a relationship with casting director Billy Hopkins, with whom he adopted two children, Clara and Liam. After their separation, Daniels has been in a relationship with Andy Sforzini since 2009.
In addition to his film career, Daniels has also worked on social campaigns, including one at the request of former President Bill Clinton, urging young African-Americans to participate in elections and vote.
