Li Leonard, an American television icon, was born in New York City on April 3, 1929. His career began at WNBC-AM in New York, where he hosted "Conversation Station" and "Fortune Phone."

In the 1970s, Leonard collaborated with Jack Whitaker and CBS-TV to revamp "The NFL on CBS." The show's success led to Leonard's involvement in the launch of ESPN in 1979, where he delivered the inaugural address before the inaugural broadcast of "SportsCenter."
