Len Ganley: Professional Snooker Referee

Len Ganley was a renowned professional snooker referee from Northern Ireland. Before embarking on his refereeing career, Ganley worked as a bus driver and salesman. He was an accomplished snooker player in his own right, with a highest break of 136.

Refereeing Accomplishments

Ganley officiated four World Championship finals (1983, 1987, 1990, and 1993). Among other notable matches, he refereed the 1983 UK Championship final and the 1997 World Championship match between Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mick Price, where O'Sullivan made the fastest maximum break in history.

Recognition and Legacy

In recognition of his contributions, Ganley was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1994. He retired from snooker in 1999 and, in 2002, suffered a heart attack. His health subsequently declined due to complications from diabetes. Len Ganley passed away in 2011 at his home in Northern Ireland.
