Young golfer with a prosthetic hand
Leo Miller, an 11-year-old British boy, was born with a deformed hand. However, this did not deter him from taking up golf and excelling in the sport. Leo, who lives in Poole, Dorset, with his mother Sara and sister Kirra, is predicted to have a promising future in professional golf.
A life full of activity
Despite being born without a right hand, Leo leads an active lifestyle. He enjoys activities such as karate and skateboarding. Recently, he discovered his passion for golf by chance when he stumbled upon his father's golf club in the garage. Leo went out onto the green lawn behind his house and started hitting the ball. Using only his left hand, he managed to hit the ball 100 yards.
Recognizing talent
When Leo's father, Ian, saw his son's natural talent for golf, he immediately took him to his golf club. There, young Leo impressed professionals with his skills. He was offered golf lessons and began training. It quickly became evident that Leo had a perfect golf swing, and his talent could not be ignored.
A bionic solution
To support Leo's golfing abilities, a custom-made bionic prosthesis was created for him. This prosthetic hand, developed by 'Dorset Orthopaedic' in Ringwood, Hampshire, is a flexible silicone glove that attaches to Leo's right hand, with a golf club attached to the other end. With this bionic hand, Leo is now able to hit the ball nearly 200 yards.
Remarkable achievements
Barry Mutter, Leo's golf club coach, describes Leo's achievements as astonishing for someone who has only been playing golf for a few months and with only one healthy hand. He praises Leo's phenomenal swing and natural talent, as well as his unwavering enthusiasm for the sport.
Dreaming big
Leo is incredibly proud of his accomplishments. Not only does he find golf to be an enjoyable game, but he also dreams of pursuing a career as a professional golfer. He is aware that golf can be a lucrative sport, which adds to his excitement and motivation.
