Biography of Leo Nucci
Leo Nucci is an Italian opera singer and baritone. He began his singing career in 1957 under the guidance of Mario Bigazzi and later studied with Giuseppe Marchese. It was under the direction of Marchese that Nucci made his professional debut in 1967, performing the role of Figaro in Gioachino Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" (The Barber of Seville). This debut proved to be successful, as Nucci won a vocal competition in Spoleto.

Shortly after his debut, Nucci joined the renowned La Scala opera chorus in Milan. In 1975, he made his solo debut on the La Scala stage, once again performing the role of Figaro. Around the same time, Nucci also began performing the role of Rigoletto, which became one of his signature roles alongside Figaro.

While maintaining his connection with La Scala, Nucci also pursued an international career. In 1978, he was invited to London to replace an ill colleague in Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Luisa Miller." His success in Britain opened doors to the best theaters in Europe and around the world.

In 1979, Nucci performed as Figaro at the Vienna State Opera, further solidifying his reputation as a leading baritone. In 1980, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, performing in Verdi's opera "Un ballo in maschera." This debut was also met with great success, leading to annual performances at the Metropolitan Opera and numerous audio and video recordings.
Nucci's repertoire includes a wide range of operas, including Verdi's "Falstaff," "Aida," "Don Carlo," "Otello," and "Macbeth," Mozart's "Idomeneo," Puccini's "Le Villi," and many others. He has recorded over 40 albums, many of which were released by the Decca label.
Outside of his career, Leo Nucci is married to opera singer Adriana Anelli, who is a soprano. They have a daughter together.
