Early Life and Career

José José, born José Rómulo Sosa Ortiz in 1948, was raised in a musical family in Mexico City. Despite his parents' lack of musical success, José José pursued his passion for singing. After forming his first trio in 1963, he signed his first record contract in 1965.

Struggles and Success

Despite his initial lack of success, José José persevered. In 1969, he released his debut album, "José José," which received critical acclaim. His 1970 album, "La nave del olvido," propelled him to stardom in Mexico and Latin America.

International Recognition

In the early 1970s, José José became a leading figure in Latin American romantic ballads. His album "Amor Amor" (1971) and "Romántico" (1972) brought him international recognition. The 1983 album "Secretos" sold over 2 million copies in its first week.

Health and Personal Struggles

José José's success came with personal challenges. Struggling with alcoholism, he underwent rehabilitation in 1993. He also starred in the film "Perdóname Todo" (1995), which explored the struggles of an alcoholic musician.

Later Career and Recognition

Despite his health issues, José José continued to release albums throughout the 1990s. He collaborated with Armando Manzanero in a series of "Noche Bohemia" concerts in 1999. In 2001, he released the album "Tenampa," which received mixed reviews.
