Leonard Vid
Early Life and EducationLeonard Vid was born on November 9, 1931, in Zaporizhzhia, Ukrainian SSR. In 1955, he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold named after M. I. Kalinin.
Career in the Soviet Union
Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (1955-1963)Vid began his career as a mining master at the underground mine of the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine. He rose through the ranks, becoming deputy director for economic affairs in 1977.
Gosplan USSR (1977-1991)
After graduating from the USSR Academy of National Economy in the 1980s, Vid joined Gosplan USSR, the central planning agency of the Soviet Union. He served as deputy and first deputy chairman from 1986 to 1990. In 1991, he became first deputy minister of economy and forecasting.
Post-Soviet Career
Center for Economic Conjuncture (1991-1994)Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Vid became deputy director and later director of the Center for Economic Conjuncture under the Russian government.
Alfa-Bank (1996-2002)
On February 5, 1996, Vid was appointed chairman of the board of Alfa-Bank. He remained in this role until August 1, 2002, when he resigned due to his age.
