Early Life and Education
Viktor Sergeevich Vinogradov was born in 1895 to a medical family. In 1911, he graduated from the law faculty of Novorossiysk University in Odessa, where he also began his teaching career.
Academic Career
>In 1921, Vinogradov moved to Moscow, where he taught at the Bryusov Literary and Art Institute. He later served as a scientific secretary for the literary section of the State Academy of Artistic Sciences (GAHN) and worked in the literary and art department of the State Publishing House. Subsequently, he returned to teaching at various pedagogical institutes in Moscow.
Literary and Scholarly Work
Vinogradov was a prolific writer and scholar, specializing in literary criticism. He authored several acclaimed biographies, including those of Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Dostoevsky, for the "Life of Remarkable People" series.
Controversy and Later Life
In 1948, Vinogradov became embroiled in the anti-cosmopolitan campaign that targeted intellectuals in the Soviet Union. He was accused of promoting Western literature and ideas. Despite the controversy, Vinogradov continued his literary work.
Death and Legacy
>Viktor Sergeevich Vinogradov passed away in 1969 and was laid to rest in Vvedenskoye Cemetery in Moscow. His contributions to Russian literary studies and his work as a biographer continue to be recognized and appreciated to this day.
