Education and Early Career

Marcis Auzinsh was born in 1956 and pursued his undergraduate education in physics and mathematics at the University of Latvia (LU). He furthered his studies at Peking University and the University of Western Ontario in Canada.

Academic Accomplishments

In 1992, Auzinsh became an associate professor at LU and was promoted to full professor in 1997. In 1998, he was elected as a member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

Leadership at the University of Latvia

From 2007 to 2015, Auzinsh served as the Rector of the University of Latvia. During his tenure, he was responsible for the university's administration and strategic development. In 2011, he was re-elected for a second four-year term.

Post-Rectorship Career

After his role as Rector, Auzinsh assumed the position of Head of the Department of Experimental Physics at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at LU in 2015.

Awards and Recognition

In 2010, Auzinsh was awarded the Grand Medal of the Latvian Academy of Sciences for his outstanding contributions to science.
