Leonid Matsikh embarked on his academic journey at the Zaporizhzhia State Pedagogical Institute, specializing in French language teaching. He later pursued a doctorate in French literature from Moscow State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages named after Maurice Thorez. Following his doctoral studies, Matsikh completed a post-graduate program in Rabbinic Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York.

Academic Accomplishments and Affiliations

Matsikh's expertise in religious studies, particularly in Judaism, was highly regarded. He served as a member of the Academic Council of the International Center for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization in Jerusalem and the Academic Council of the "Sefer" ("Book") Center, the Russian Center for Judaic Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

International Collaborations and Research Projects

Matsikh played a pivotal role in the international exchange of knowledge. From 1991 to 1993, he served as the Coordinator of Jewish Educational Programs for Adults at the Ministry of Education and Culture in Israel. Later, he was appointed Academic Representative for the former USSR by the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in the United States.

As an active researcher, Matsikh directed a project to translate the "Grand Commentary on the Scriptures," a collection of medieval commentaries on the Bible, into Russian. The first volume of this translation was published in 2010.
