Early Life and Education
Valery Ivanovich Sablin was born in Naryan-Mar, Russia, on March 8, 1949. His parents were Ivan Petrovich Sablin and Zinaida Ivanovna Sablin. In 1971, he graduated from the Kaliningrad Technical Institute of Fishing Industry and Economics with a degree in technology.
Career in the Fishing Industry
Sablin began his career at the Pechora Fish Combine in Naryan-Mar, where he held various positions including master, senior master, and chief engineer. At the age of 26, he became the director of the fish combine, which employed over 600 people.
Political Career
In 1982, Sablin became Deputy Chairman of the Nenets Okrispolkom (district executive committee). After completing the Leningrad Higher Party School, he became Chairman of the Nenets Okrispolkom and Chairman of the District Council of People's Deputies at the age of 36.
On December 12, 1993, Sablin was elected as a deputy to the Federation Council of the Russian Federation from the Nenets single-mandate constituency. He served in this role until 1994. From 1994 to 2005, he was a deputy of the Assembly of Deputies of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and was elected Deputy Chairman of the Assembly for two terms.
Mayor of Naryan-Mar
In 2005, Sablin was elected as the Head of Administration of Naryan-Mar. He resigned from this position in 2008 at his own request.
Later Political Career and Death
In 2009, Sablin was elected as a deputy of the Assembly of Deputies of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and became Chairman of the Standing Committee on State Governance and Local Government, as well as leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF) faction. In March 2012, he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of Deputies of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Valery Ivanovich Sablin passed away suddenly in Naryan-Mar on September 30, 2012. He was survived by his brother, Aleksandr Ivanovich Sablin, a member of the KPRF Central Committee, and his cousin, Valery Mikhailovich Sablin, a former Baltic Fleet officer who led a rebellion on the large anti-submarine ship "Storozhevoy" in 1975.
