Lester Carl Thurow, an American economist, is widely known for his contributions to various economic topics. He was born in Livingston, Montana. In 1960, he earned a bachelor's degree in political economy from Williams College. As a recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship, Thurow pursued further studies at Balliol College, Oxford, where he focused on philosophy, politics, and economics. He graduated with distinction in 1962. Two years later, he obtained a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.

Currently, Thurow serves on the boards of directors of several companies, including Analog Devices, Grupo Casa Autrey, E-Trade, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. In 1986, he co-founded the Economic Policy Institute, an institution dedicated to economic policy research. Thurow also writes economic columns for well-known publications such as the Boston Globe and USA Today. He previously collaborated with the New York Times and was a member of its editorial board. Thurow has also edited Newsweek.
