Lev Viktorovich Goier
Early Life and EducationLev Viktorovich Goier was born into an economically privileged family. He went on to study at the Faculty of Law at the University of St. Petersburg, graduating with a law degree.
Career in Finance
After graduating, Goier embarked on a career in finance. From 1912 to 1916, he served as an agent for the Ministry of Finance in China, based in Beijing. He also held positions as a member of the board of directors for the Russo-Asiatic Bank and the Chinese Eastern Railway Society.
In August 1919, Goier was appointed Minister of Finance for the Omsk government of Alexander Kolchak. However, he resigned from this position in November 1919 due to the declining value of the Siberian ruble.
Emigration and Literary Career
Following his resignation, Goier went into exile in Shanghai, where he worked for the Russo-Asiatic Bank from 1920 to 1922. He then moved to Paris in 1926, where he pursued a career in banking and literature.
Goier published three books during his lifetime and contributed to various Russian-language periodicals, including "Illustrated Russia" and "Vozrozhdenie."
Masonic Involvement
Goier was deeply involved in freemasonry. He was initiated into the Jupiter Lodge No. 536 of the Grand Lodge of France in 1927 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Master of the Gamain Lodge in 1936.
He also held various positions in the Supreme Council of France, including Grand Orator and Keeper of the Seal.
Later Career and Legacy
In addition to his masonic and literary pursuits, Goier was a member of the board of directors for a food cooperative and a member of the Russian Supreme Council.
He passed away in Paris, leaving behind a significant legacy in both finance and masonry.
