Biography of Lewis Black
Lewis Niles Black, an American comedian, author, playwright, social critic, and actor, was born in 1948 in Silver Spring, Maryland, U.S. His mother, Jeannette, was a teacher, and his father, Sam Black, was a mechanical engineer with a passion for painting. Lewis has Jewish roots and attended Springbrook High School, graduating in 1966. In his autobiographical book, "Nothing's Sacred," Black writes that he excelled in mathematics and applied to several prestigious universities such as Yale, Princeton, Brown, Amherst, Williams, and Georgetown. Although he was not accepted by the first five, he had the opportunity to attend Georgetown University. However, by that time, Lewis had already decided that he did not want to go there and instead enrolled at the University of Maryland. Later, he transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied playwriting. During his time there, he joined the fraternity "Pi Lambda Phi" and was a member of the Student Congress. In 1977, Black earned a Master's degree in Drama from Yale School of Drama.
Comedic Career
Black began his career in theater in New York City but later decided to try his hand at stand-up comedy. Since 1996, Lewis regularly appeared as a news commentator on Jon Stewart's show, "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." He later appeared in television shows such as "Lewis Black's Root of All Evil" and "Stark Raving Black." Black's stand-up comedy career took off relatively late, and he released his first full-length DVD in 2004. In the early 2000s, Black appeared three times on "Comedy Central Presents." He gained widespread recognition when he was already over 50 years old. Nevertheless, Black's third DVD, "The Carnegie Hall Performance," won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 2010. He also won another Grammy Award in 2011 for his album "Stark Raving Black." In 2012, his most recent album, "In God We Rust," was released. In 2001, Black was recognized as the Funniest Male Stand-Up Comic, earning him an American Comedy Award. He was ranked 51st on the list of "100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time" by Comedy Central in 2004, climbed to 4th place in "Stand-Up Showdown" in 2008, and secured 11th place in 2010.

Lewis Black is also known for his work as an actor in over 30 films, including short films and television series. He has also served as a producer on several occasions.
