Inta Burkawas born on December 20, 1940, in Liepaja, Latvia, to an officer in the Latvian army. She attended Liepaja's Fifth Secondary School (1959) and graduated from the Riga Technical School of Culture and Education (1961), where she studied directing.

Career Beginnings

Dramatically Inclined:Burka began her acting career with the Baltic Fleet Drama Theatre-Studio before joining the Valmiera Drama Theatre (1963).

Formal Training

Stage Beyond Studio:To further her craft, Burka enrolled in the Theatre Faculty of the Janis Vitols Latvian State Conservatory in Riga, graduating in 1970.
