Biography of Lil Jon

Lil Jon, born as Jonathan Smith, is a hip-hop artist and club DJ. He spent many years as an underground fighter before starting his career as a club DJ in his hometown of Atlanta. In the mid-90s, he began experimenting with producing music, thanks to Jermaine Dupri, who helped him secure a position at the record label So So Def. His first noteworthy works were compositions for Too $hort.

In 1996, he made his debut as an artist with his album "Get Crunk, Who U Wit: Da Album" alongside his crew, the Eastside Boyz (Big Sam and Lil Bo). However, the album did not receive much attention, possibly due to weak distribution and the lack of a promotional campaign. In 2003, some of the album's tracks were remixed and reissued as "Certified Crunk." Similarly, their next album, "We Still Crunk," released by indie label BME, went unnoticed.

Despite these setbacks, Lil Jon's skills as a producer were highly sought after, and the brand "Lil Jon" became known beyond the state of Georgia. The release of the album "Put Yo Hood Up" played a significant role in turning the situation around. Lil Jon's producer success allowed him to attract big-name artists like Ludacris and Lil Mo for the album's recording. The list of collaborators on the album "King of Crunk" is equally impressive, featuring artists from the South and beyond, such as Ying Yang Twins, Eightball, MJG, Mystikal, Trick Daddy, Petey Pablo, Krayzie Bone, Devin The Dude, E40, and even Fat Joe, Styles, and Jadakiss.

In 2004, Lil Jon's success was primarily tied to his production work. The mega-hit "Yeah!" that he co-wrote for Usher was widely praised, and the debut of his new proteges, Lil Scrappy and Trillville, under his label BME, was also successful. Towards the end of the season, the release of another album, "Crunk Juice," was announced. This new masterpiece was set to break all the records set by "King of Crunk." The extensive guest list includes legends such as Ice Cube, Nas, and Snoop Dogg. Although Lil Jon produced most of the album himself, he entrusted a few tracks to sound wizards Scott Storch, Neptunes, Timbaland, and Rick Rubin. Surprisingly, punk band Bad Brains and rocker Tommy Lee are also among the invited guests.
