Born on April 26, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents with Native American and African-American ancestry, Tyonne's life was marked by a serious health challenge. At the age of seven, she was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, a genetic blood disorder affecting red blood cells. Her parents were devastated, as their daughter was expected to live only until her 20s.

Undeterred, Tyonne moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with her family at age nine. Despite the constant threat of hospitalization, she refused to let her condition define her. In 1996, she publicly revealed her diagnosis, becoming an advocate for sickle cell disease awareness.

Music Career

Tyonne's passion for music led her to audition for a teenage girl group called 2nd Nature. She eventually formed the trio TLC with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas in 1991.
