Russian-Born French Harpist
Lili Laskine was a renowned French harpist of Russian descent. She graduated from the Paris Conservatory and began her career in 1910 as a harpist in the orchestra of the Paris Opera. In 1934, she joined the National Orchestra of French Radio (now the National Orchestra of France). For over 30 years, she also performed with the orchestra of the Comédie Française.
Concert Career
During the 1950s, Laskine embarked on a successful concert career, presenting solo and chamber music programs. She became particularly famous for her collaborations with flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal, including their acclaimed recording of Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp with the orchestra of Jean-François Paillard.
Teaching and Legacy
In addition to her performance career, Laskine also served as a professor at the Paris Conservatory from 1948 to 1958. To commemorate the centenary of her birth in 1993, the International Harp Competition bearing her name was established.
