Early Life and Career

Lindsey Jacobellis was born on August 19, 1985, in Danbury, Connecticut. She currently resides in Stratton, Vermont. Jacobellis made her Olympic debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, where she won the silver medal in women's snowboard cross. Her silver medal came in dramatic fashion. In the snowboard cross final on February 17, 2006, Jacobellis entered the final jump with a three-second lead over Switzerland's Tanja Frieden. Attempting to showcase her style, Jacobellis grabbed her snowboard with her hand (a trick known as a "grab") and crashed. Frieden passed her to win the gold medal, while Jacobellis settled for silver. In a post-race television interview, Jacobellis famously said, "Snowboarding is fun; and I was having fun."

X Games Dominance

Jacobellis won the snowboard cross X Games from 2003 to 2005, took silver in 2007, and then won again from 2008 to 2010. In 2007, at the Winter X Games, Jacobellis crashed just short of the finish line while leading the final, echoing her experience at the 2006 Olympics. However, she regained the gold medal at the Winter X Games XII in 2008.

Later Career and Endorsements

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Jacobellis failed to advance to the medal round in snowboard cross after crashing and falling out of the track during the semifinals. She was heavily favored to win. Jacobellis has been featured in several high-profile advertising campaigns, including one for the Visa debit card.
