Lisa De Leeuw: Biography of an American Adult Film Actress
Lisa De Leeuw, whose real name is Lisa Trego, was born on July 3, 1958, in Moline, Illinois. She entered the adult film industry at the age of 19, influenced by her boyfriend who managed a small studio producing adult films. Initially hesitant, she eventually decided to pursue a career as a porn actress and made it a rule to only appear in high-quality productions.
Debuting in the lead role of the classic porn film "800 Fantasy Lane" in 1979, De Leeuw quickly gained a massive fan base. Despite not being conventionally beautiful, her characters were intriguing women with voluptuous breasts and insatiable sexual appetites. She appeared in almost 200 films and was inducted into the X-Rated Critics Organization (XRCO) Hall of Fame and the Adult Video News (AVN) Hall of Fame. Her trademark lion pendant, which she wore in almost all of her films, became her symbol.
De Leeuw seamlessly transitioned to video format, becoming one of the first "Vivid Girls" – porn actresses under contract with the world's largest adult entertainment producer, Vivid Entertainment Group. Other studios later adopted this working principle.
In 1981 and 1982, De Leeuw won the "CAFA Award" for Best Supporting Role, and in 1985 and 1986, she received the "AVN Award" for Best Actress. However, in 1987, she left the porn industry and focused on dancing.
The Controversy and Speculations
In 1991, Lisa De Leeuw was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS after using a contaminated syringe while using drugs. Although she withdrew from public appearances, she passed away on November 11, 1993, at the age of 35 due to complications related to AIDS. However, rumors of her still being alive persist.
In 2000, writer and porn producer David Jennings published the book "Skinflicks: The Inside Story of the X-Rated Video Industry," in which he mentioned rumors circulating in the late 80s and early 90s porn community about De Leeuw and several other porn stars faking their deaths to sever ties with the industry. There is no documentary evidence to support these claims.
