Early Life and Television Career
Lisa Cecelia Blount was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on July 1st, 1957. She began her career in show business at the tender age of 12, making her debut as Vivian Buck in the 1969 drama "Sam's Song." After graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1975, Blount landed several minor roles in television.
Breakthrough Role and Film Success
Blount's breakthrough role came in 1982 with her portrayal of Lynette Pomeroy in Taylor Hackford's romantic drama "An Officer and a Gentleman." She went on to play memorable roles in John Carpenter's horror classic "Prince of Darkness" (1987) and the television series "Profit" (1996-2002), where she portrayed the outrageous stepmother Bobby Stakowski.
Producing Career and Oscar Win
In addition to acting, Blount also became a successful producer. She and her husband, actor and filmmaker Ray McKinnon, won an Academy Award in 2001 for Best Live Action Short Film for their film "The Accountant." Blount also produced and starred in the 2004 crime drama "Chrystal," which featured Billy Bob Thornton in the lead role.
Death
Lisa Blount was found dead in her mother's home in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 27th, 2010. According to the coroner, Blount had likely been dead for a couple of days. A homicide investigation was ruled out. Blount's mother, Louise Blount, told RadarOnline.com that her daughter suffered from idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a condition in which low platelet levels can lead to bleeding and bruising.
