Biography of Liselott Persson

Liselott Persson was born in Sweden into the family of a famous merchant, the founder of the largest retail chain Hennes & Mauritz, which came into existence thanks to his efforts in 1947. Currently, she owns a significant portion of the company, which is headed by her brother Stefan. Hennes & Mauritz has now become a renowned giant conglomerate, owning a huge number of women's, men's, teenage, and children's clothing stores (approximately more than 1,500), located in 28 countries around the world. Today, the company provides employment to nearly seventy thousand people.

Early History of Hennes & Mauritz

The history of Hennes & Mauritz began from its inception. At that time, it was a small enterprise (named Hennes) that exclusively sold women's clothing. In 1968, Erling Persson (Liselott's father) acquired a new premises and inventory in Stockholm and started selling not only women's but also men's clothing. The company was renamed Hennes & Mauritz and instantly became popular. The first store was opened in Sweden. After some time, stores appeared in other European countries, including the United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland, and Germany. In the 1990s, the first stores were opened in France, Belgium, Austria, and the Netherlands. H&M continued to expand, and soon new retail salons opened in the rest of Europe and the United States of America.

Expansion and Leadership

The retail chain reached even greater heights when Liselott's brother, Stefan, took over as the leader of the company (he became the president in 1990 and the Chairman of the Board in 1998). By that time, the enterprise had expanded and developed, significantly increasing its range of products. Currently, the company produces a large portion of its own products in high-quality facilities in China.

Liselott Persson, known as "Lotti" by her close ones, is a famous Swedish businesswoman and one of the largest shareholders of the global retail company Hennes & Mauritz. Her personal capital is estimated at approximately two billion dollars, according to Forbes economic journal, which included Liselott in the list of the most influential people in the world.
