Biography of Lita
Amy Dumas, also known by her professional pseudonym Lita, is an American professional wrestler and vocalist. She was born on April 14, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Throughout her childhood and youth, she moved from school to school and finally graduated from Lassiter High School six months before the official graduation. After that, she enrolled at the University of Georgia but left after a year.
Dumas developed an interest in wrestling after watching the TV show WCW Monday Nitro. She began training in judo, kickboxing, and eventually wrestling. In 1998, she traveled to Mexico to learn more about wrestling, where she met Kevin Quinn and Ricky Santana, who became her first trainers.
Upon returning to the United States, Dumas worked for a period of time in independent wrestling organizations under the name Angelica. She also worked in NWA Mid-Atlantic, where she met the Hardy brothers, Matt and Jeff. In the spring of 1999, Paul Heyman, the head of ECW, approached Dumas with an offer to join the organization, and she soon debuted as Miss Congeniality. Around the same time, Rob Van Dam introduced her to Dory Funk Jr., who invited her to his wrestling school, The Funkin' Conservatory. Funk and his wife recorded Dumas' performances and sent them to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
From the moment Dumas signed a contract with the WWF on November 1, 1999, and made her debut under the pseudonym "Lita" on February 13, 2000, she gained enormous popularity. Throughout her career, she won the WWF Women's Championship four times and rightfully earned the title of a wrestling superstar. However, her personal life, specifically her romantic involvement with Matt Hardy since 2001 and the revelation of her secret relationship with Adam Copeland in early 2005, led to a decline in her popularity. Despite Hardy's statements in interviews that he and Amy remained friends, fans did not forgive Lita for her betrayal. She was booed during her performances and eventually left wrestling.
Throughout her career, Dumas received various accolades, including being named Woman of the Year in 2001, fourth place in 2005 and 2006. She was also a four-time WWF/WWE Women's Champion in 2000, 2004, and 2006. In 2005, her feud with Matt Hardy against Edge and Lita was named Feud of the Year by American Chronicle. In 2006, she was again named Woman of the Year.
