Lizzy Brocheré was born on March 22, 1985, in Paris, France. Her mother, Sylvie Brocheré, is a renowned French casting director, which sparked Lizzy's early fascination with the film industry. She made her film debut at the tender age of three in "In the Shadow of the Moon", starring Nastassja Kinski. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, Lizzy continued to act in small roles. It wasn't until she landed a part in Jean-Marc Barr's erotic coming-of-age drama "Each Night Has Its Dawn" at the age of 19 that she realized her calling in acting.
Despite her success in acting, Lizzy was also determined to pursue academic excellence. She earned a Master's degree in Literature and Cinema from the Sorbonne University and later studied Media Management at ESCP Business School. This move was driven by her ambition to one day direct and produce her own films.
Film and Television Career
Lizzy Brocheré's film career began in France, where she established herself as a versatile actress, transitioning from child roles to adult ones and mastering various genres from comedy to thrillers. Her international breakthrough came with the role of Grace Bertrand in the second season of "American Horror Story: Asylum." Set in a mental institution for the criminally insane, the series featured Lizzy as a troubled patient under the tyrannical rule of Sister Jude (Jessica Lange). The addition of Kit Walker (Evan Peters) to the plot heightened the suspense and supernatural elements.
Brocheré auditioned for "American Horror Story" on her birthday and impressed the casting directors so much that they rewrote Grace's character to be French. She immersed herself in the role, practicing her American accent until she lost her French intonation. The series captivated Lizzy with its ensemble cast and eerie storyline involving aliens, ghosts, and Nazi experiments. She has expressed her belief in extraterrestrial life, but doubts its true appearance.
However, the show's portrayal of violence and gore took its toll on Lizzy. A scene where she was locked in a bathroom with blood dripping on her from above left her traumatized for a week. The realistic nature of the killings and props required time for her to recover emotionally.
Around the same time, Lizzy starred in another Anglophone project, the BBC series "The Hour." Set in the backdrop of the 1950s, she portrayed Camille, the French mistress of a young and ambitious reporter, Freddie Lyon (Ben Whishaw).
Lizzy continued to balance French and international projects, determined to break away from the stereotypical "French girl" persona through her impeccable English. In 2016, she landed the lead role in the American supernatural drama "Falling Water," playing Tess, a fashion editor. Despite modest ratings, the series ran for two seasons, further elevating Lizzy's recognition among American audiences.
Personal Life
Lizzy Brocheré has kept her personal life relatively private. She was once romantically involved with French actor Pierre Perrier, whom she met on set, but that relationship has long ended. Perrier is now dating actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, leaving the status of Lizzy's heart a mystery.
In her spare time, Lizzy engages in yoga, stretching, and dancing to maintain her flexibility and poise. Standing at 5'3" (160 cm), she has an athletic and graceful physique, which is evident in her elegant and feminine style on red carpets.
Present Day and Career Highlights
In 2022, Lizzy joined the main cast of the Showtime series "American Gigolo," which premiered on September 11. A reboot of the 1980 film of the same name, the drama stars John Bernthal and Gretchen Mol, with Lizzy portraying a character named Isabelle.
