Biography of Louise Nettleton

Early Life and Career

Louise Nettleton was born in 1927 in Oak Park, Illinois, to Edward and Virginia Nettleton. In 1948, she won the title of "Miss Chicago" in a beauty pageant and went on to become a semi-finalist in the "Miss America Pageant". Her professional acting career began in 1949 with her first television appearance in the series "Kraft Television Theatre" and her first theatrical performance in Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

Television and Film Career

Nettleton went on to guest star in numerous television series including "Studio One", "Armstrong Circle Theatre", "Gunsmoke", "Naked City", and many others. She also made frequent appearances on game shows such as "Pyramid". In the late 1970s, Nettleton won her first Emmy Award for her role in Robert DuBel's teleplay "The American Woman: Portraits of Courage". She received her second Emmy Award in 1983 for the film "A Gun for Mandy". Nettleton was also nominated for her roles in "The Golden Girls" and the teleplay "Fear on Trial" in 1975.

In addition to her television work, Nettleton also appeared in films such as "Period of Adjustment" (1962), "Mail Order Bride" (1964), "The Good Guys and the Bad Guys" (1969), and "Dirty Dingus Magee" (1970). She starred in the drama film "Echoes of a Summer" in 1976 and her last film role was in Conrad Janis' "The Feminine Touch" in 1994. Throughout her career, Nettleton acted in nearly a hundred television shows and films, as well as theatrical productions.

Later Life and Personal Life

In 1960, Nettleton married actor and radio host John Shepperd. The marriage lasted for seven years, but they did not have any children. Nettleton passed away at the age of 80 on January 18, 2008, from lung cancer. She was laid to rest at Saint Raymond's Cemetery in New York.
