A Dedicated American Working at McDonald's for 44 Years
Exceptional MilestoneAt the ripe age of 94, American citizen Lorraine Maurer has celebrated her remarkable 44th anniversary working at McDonald's fast food restaurant. "When I first started, I didn't plan on staying," shares Lorraine, who joined McDonald's in 1973 after her husband retired due to a disability. She adds, "I told my husband I was too young to sit and do nothing, so I got a job."

Colleagues' Recognition
Lorraine's colleagues at the Evansville, Indiana, restaurant, including her employers Chip and Katie Kentworth, celebrated her extraordinary milestone. "Lorraine has a loyal following, to say the least," says Katie, who has owned the restaurant for almost two years. "She has numerous dedicated customers who come specifically to our store just to see her."

To commemorate Lorraine's unique achievement, the Kentworths organized a party. They invited her friends, family, and fellow parishioners from the local Catholic church she attends. "It was just wonderful," Lorraine expresses about the celebration. "There were so many people there that I didn't even get a chance to talk to everybody."

Connections with Customers
Lorraine, a mother of four, grandmother of six, and great-grandmother of seven, emphasizes the importance of her relationships with customers. It was through heartfelt interactions with patrons that she navigated a challenging period in her life after losing her husband Kenneth in 1980. "When I lost my husband, these people were my lifesavers...the customers," Lorraine shares. "They helped me through it."
A Meaningful Purpose
Although each winter Lorraine contemplates retirement, she has yet to be ready to give up her comfortable schedule, which now requires her to work twice a week. "I would miss it...I don't want to get depressed or anything like that...This is not work to me," Lorraine states. "I really, truly enjoy what I do...Life is what you make it, and I try to do that."
Notable Companionship
In 2016, another notable McDonald's employee made headlines. Goh Gek Eng, a 92-year-old resident of Singapore, joined the fast food restaurant 18 years ago when her children moved out into their own homes. Eng plans to continue working as long as her health allows, as the workplace is located conveniently near her home.
