Biography of Lorenzo Villoresi
Lorenzo Villoresi, an Italian perfumer, was born in 1956 in Florence, Italy. He conducted his research and traveled to the Middle East, which greatly influenced his work. He continues the ancient traditions of perfumery in Florence, where the modern production of fragrances most likely originated. In 1990, Villoresi opened his fragrance house, 'LV', in a 15th-century family palace overlooking the Arno River.
Achievements and Recognition
Lorenzo Villoresi gained fame for his custom-made fragrances and aromatic blends made from dried flower petals. He stands out for his independence from other perfumers working in major fragrance houses such as Chanel and Hermès. In 2006, Villoresi received the prestigious François Coty Award, considered the "Oscar" of the perfume world, which recognizes perfumers' achievements in their careers and their latest creations. He has also authored several books on the art of perfumery, including 'Il Profumo: Cultura, storia e tecniche,' which covers perfume production techniques, raw materials, the history of perfumes, and famous perfume quotes from literature. Villoresi has contributed to the development of the perfume culture and the revival of artistry in perfumery by participating in the Fragranze conferences at the Pitti Immagine, an international fashion and textile exhibition. These annual conferences bring together perfumers from around the world to celebrate art and high perfumery. Villoresi is also involved in creating the Perfume Art Academy (L'Accademia dell'Arte del Profumo) in Florence, which offers educational courses, various events, seminars, and works on expanding the fragrance library and other aspects related to the perfume world.
Fragrance Line and Creations
One of Villoresi's most famous perfume lines, 'Fragranze Fantasia,' included the scent 'Piper Nigrum' in 1999, evoking the creator's memories of African markets. In 2000, the fragrance 'Dilmun' was introduced, presented as a "mythical Mesopotamian paradise, a vision of sun and citrus fruits, a memory of vibrant legends heard by the creator during his studies." In the same year, the perfume 'Teint de Neige' was born, reminiscent of the Belle Époque, with a "rosy shade of a powdered face." The enveloping, delicate, and soft 'Teint de Neige' eau de toilette unmistakably recreates the presence of scented powders, perfumed powders, and talcum.
In 2001, Lorenzo Villoresi presented the fragrance 'Yerbamate,' representing the vastness of grass and wildflowers, reflecting his love for nature and open spaces, tea ceremonies, and mate ceremonies. In 2006, the fragrance line expanded with 'Alamut,' luxurious oriental-style perfumes characterized by warm sensual notes and flowers of great value, on a rich base of rare exotic wood species. The perfume 'Alamut' invokes legends of the Middle East, the immortal '1001 Nights,' the city of flowers Gulistan, and the aromas of mysterious gardens.
Today, in his "fragrance workshop" on Via de' Bardi in Florence, Villoresi continues to create unique custom-made perfumes while his fragrance collections bearing his name are available in forty countries worldwide. One of his latest developments, a special collection for hotel needs, is currently available in the world's finest hotels.
