Early Life and Career
Young's family moved to Hollywood when she was three years old. As a child, she and her sister Elizabeth gained recognition in films. At age three, Young's talent captivated movie audiences in "The Primrose Ring." Actress May Murray, smitten with Young, convinced her mother to let her live with her for several years.
In 1928, Gretchen Young adopted the stage name "Loretta Young" for her role in "The Whip Woman." She received her education at Ramona Convent Secondary School.
Marriage and Divorce
At age 17, Young met and married actor Grant Withers, who was 26. They married in Arizona, but their union ended the following year.
Golden Years
