Broadway Director and Choreographer

Lorin Latarro is a Broadway director and choreographer whose work has been seen on Broadway and in dance companies around the globe. She began her career as a dancer, performing in fourteen Broadway shows and touring with world-renowned dance companies.

Education and Training

She graduated from The Juilliard School, where she studied under Benjamin Harkarvy. She also trained with Pina Bausch, Hector Zarazpe, and Jiri Kylian. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Juilliard, Ms. Latarro went on to dance with the Martha Graham Dance Company, followed by MOMIX and Twyla Tharp.

Broadway and Off-Broadway Career

She has performed in 14 Broadway shows, including Fosse, Movin' Out, A Chorus Line, Spamalot, and Swing!. Ms. Latarro is now a New York-based director/choreographer, with Broadway credits including Into the Woods, Waitress, Mrs. Doubtfire, Dangerous Liaisons, Waiting for Godot, the Metropolitan Opera's La Traviata, Ira Glass and Lin-Manuel Miranda's This American Life: 21 Chump Street, Public Theater's The Odyssey and Twelfth Night, BAM's Peter and the Wolf, Queen of the Night (Drama Desk Award), Encores! Fanny (2010), Kiss Me, Kate, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, American Idiot, and more. She is an Artistic Associate at Bucks County Playhouse.

Ms. Latarro is currently developing Lauren Sandler's novel This Is All I Got with playwright Kirsten Greenidge into a musical about a homeless woman in New York City and her plight to find stable housing for herself and her newborn son. Most recently, Ms. Latarro directed Candice Bushnell's one-woman show Is There Still Sex in the City? at Daryl Roth Theatre, which was a NYTimes Critic's Pick.

Ms. Latarro holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Juilliard School, where she is on faculty as an adjunct professor. She has an MFA in Film and Television Directing from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She is a Drama Desk, Lortel, and Chita Rivera nominee.

Social Activism

Ms. Latarro has traveled to India and Africa multiple times to work with the Gates Foundation on health and family planning, and is the founder of ArtAmmmo.org Artists Against Gun Violence, which has been featured on NY Times, PBS, Rachel Maddow, and BBC. In addition to her acclaimed choreography, Ms. Latarro partners with the Gates Foundation on missions in Africa and is the founder of artammo.org. ART=AMMO, an Artists Against Gun Violence initiative. Ms. Latarro organizes flash mob performances in various locations across the country to urge people to pause and truly consider where they stand on the issue of gun violence in the United States.
