Just a day before her 20th birthday, she had traveled to Austria for a skiing holiday with her family and friends. After an evening out with loved ones, she fell ill.
Tragic Turn of Events
The following morning, Lotte's heart suddenly stopped, and she was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors placed her in an induced coma to stabilize her condition. She was later transferred to a specialized facility in Munich, where she remained unconscious for two weeks. On March 6, 2019, her parents announced her passing.

"Our pearl, our everything, was taken from us on Wednesday evening, March 6, at 10:47 p.m.," Bert van der Zee and Eugenika van het Hul wrote on Lotte's official Instagram account. "It is unbearable to realize that our beloved Lotte is no longer with us. Our hearts are broken."
Decision to Let Go
Lotte's mother revealed that they had made the difficult decision to discontinue life support. Doctors had informed them that her brain function had ceased and her vital organs were failing. "The past few days have been very heavy for Lotte," Eugenika told the Evening Standard. "We were not about to let our daughter suffer any longer."
A Promising Career
Lotte garnered international attention in 2017 when she was crowned Miss Teen Universe. Known for her active lifestyle, passion for sports, and love of travel, the young beauty was poised to make a mark in the fashion world and had secured contracts with several renowned fashion houses.
Tributes and Remembrances
Lotte's former boyfriend, journalist Dennis Schouten, paid tribute by sharing an old photo of them together, expressing gratitude for the moments they had shared. A fellow model, mourning Lotte's passing, remarked, "I cannot understand what has happened... Lotte was such a beautiful, sweet, and spontaneous girl who made the harsh world a little softer, also for me."
