Early Life and Revolutionary Wars

Born on August 16, 1770, in Dormans, France, Charles Louis Auguste Vallain joined the French Army and served during the Revolutionary Wars.

Napoleonic Era

During the Napoleonic Wars, Vallain rose to the rank of Colonel and played a significant role in the campaigns of 1813 and 1814. On July 3, 1815, during the Hundred Days, he was promoted to Brigadier General.

Restoration and Return to Service

After Napoleon's final defeat, Vallain was briefly dismissed from the service. However, on April 19, 1823, he was reinstated and promoted to Lieutenant General.

Spanish Campaign and Honors

Vallain commanded French forces during the Spanish Campaign in 1823. For his service, he was elevated to Grand Commander of the Legion of Honor on June 1, 1823. The Russian Emperor Alexander I also awarded him the Order of St. George, 3rd Class, on February 25, 1824.

Later Career and Legacy

Vallain served in the French Gendarmerie in his later years. He passed away in Paris on December 25, 1854. His name remains inscribed on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, honoring his contributions to the French military.
