Biography of Louise Golden

Louise Golden is a renowned designer in the fashion industry, known for her incredible knitting skills and architectural-inspired designs. Born and raised in England, Louise made a name for herself at the young age of twenty-eight, selling her works in the best boutiques around the world and participating in the prestigious TopShop New Generation project. Her collections have been praised by even the harshest critics for their persuasiveness and uniqueness.

A Passion for Design

From an early age, Louise had a passion for design and fashion. Her mother initially wanted her to become a doctor, but Louise had other plans. She made a bet with her mother that if she achieved the highest scores in humanities subjects and got accepted into Central Saint Martins College, her mother would not interfere with her career choice. And so, it happened.

During her first year at Central Saint Martins, Louise went through a period of self-discovery, trying various combinations of knits and fabrics. It wasn't until she met London designer Raphael Lopez that her true potential was realized. He introduced her to the knitting machine and challenged her to create a cardigan. From that moment on, Louise spent endless hours in the studio, realizing that knitting was her true calling.

Learning and Growth

After gaining some experience, Louise traveled to Sao Paulo, where she started working with renowned designer Teresa Santos. Under Teresa's guidance, Louise learned how to combine creativity with business acumen, shaping her into the designer she is today. Initially, the massive machines in the factory intimidated her, but she quickly learned to tame them and forge a relationship with the "iron monsters."

Love for Architecture

Louise has always been enamored with architecture, particularly the works of Gaudi and Oscar Niemeyer. This love for architecture is evident in her intricately designed collections, which often incorporate architectural elements. She also enjoys creating classic, vibrant knitted garments that stand out.

Unique Designs

Louise's fashion shows feature models wearing her avant-garde designs, including orange and azure jumpsuits, tight-fitting shorts, and rubber stripes reminiscent of 1980s fashion. In her winter collection, titled "Cosmic Eskimos," Louise continues to showcase her knitted suits and dresses made from a blend of lycra and cashmere, featuring unconventional graphic patterns and patchwork effects.

One of the most unique aspects of Louise's designs is the cutting technique. She draws inspiration from her petite assistant, Chi, who resembles a tiny Eskimo. Louise would try various designs on Chi and keep the ones that suited her best, resulting in innovative and flattering garments.

The Creative Process

Louise works alongside five assistants in her studio in East London, where they collaborate to create stunning clothing pieces. The final garments are then manufactured in an Italian factory called Loro Piana near Lake Como. According to Louise, the Italians are unrivaled in their expertise in knitwear, although she acknowledges that the fashion landscape is ever-changing, and tomorrow's leaders may come from unexpected places.
