Lucas Correa: Argentine Footballer

Lucas Correa, an Argentine central midfielder, began his career with Rosario Central. He made his debut on June 5, 2001, in a 4-1 loss to Racing, playing eight minutes. He appeared in two more games for the club that year.

Barcelona Trial and Return to Rosario

Interest from Barcelona led Correa to travel to Spain for a trial with Barcelona B in September 2002. However, he failed to impress the team's management and was forced to return to Rosario Central. He never played for the club's first team again.

Move to Italy and Success in Serie C1

In 2004, Correa joined Tigres in the Argentine second division, playing only once before moving to Italian regional league side Penne. There, he displayed his abilities, scoring nine goals in 32 appearances. In 2005, he transferred to Lanciano in Serie C1, where he became a key player, scoring four goals in 36 games.

Lazio Transfer and Loan Spells

In January 2007, Lazio acquired Correa for €600,000, sending Cristiano Giaimelli and Marco Luddi to Lanciano in exchange. The midfielder opted to join Lazio over Chievo, who had expressed interest.

Despite signing a contract until 2011, Correa never played for Lazio. He was immediately loaned out to Lucchese, initiating a series of loan spells that included Gallipoli and Pro Patria. At Pro Patria, Correa flourished in the "trequartista" role, scoring 12 goals in 27 games.

Return to Lazio and Further Loans

After an impressive season, Correa hoped to return to Lazio but was sent on loan to Taranto and then Ravenna. In 2010, he made his way back to Lazio.

National Team Career

Correa represented Argentina at the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship. He played six games, scoring one goal, which became Argentina's first in the tournament. The team finished fourth. After the tournament, the Argentine Football Association retired the number 10 shirt in honor of Diego Maradona, making Correa the last player to wear it. The FIFA subsequently rejected the AFA's request, and the number 10 was reinstated.
