Early Life and Inspiration

Born to Juan Santos Santos, a freight elevator operator, and Irma Aquino Mendez, a homemaker, Luguelin Santos discovered his passion for track and field in 2002 at the suggestion of his cousin. Under the guidance of his first coach, Rosa Tiburcio, he honed his skills.

Junior Success and Olympic Silver

In 2010, Santos became a double gold medalist at the Summer Youth Olympics. His breakthrough came two years later, when he emerged as a world junior champion in the 400 meters. At the 2012 London Olympics, Santos electrified the crowd with a brilliant silver medal run, clocking in at 44.46 seconds.

World Championship Medalist and Record-Breaker

In 2013, Santos added a bronze medal to his collection at the World Championships. His exceptional performance continued at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, where he set a personal best of 44.11 seconds, finishing fourth in the final.
