Luigi Allemandi: A Legendary Italian Defender
Early Career and JuventusLuigi Allemandi began his football career at Legnano. His performances led to his signing by Juventus in 1925. With Juventus, Allemandi won the Italian championship in 1926 and was called up to the national team.
Match-Fixing Scandal and Move to Ambrosiana
Allemandi became embroiled in a match-fixing scandal while playing for Juventus. Torino offered him money to underperform in a match, which he refused. However, the Italian Football Federation suspended him for his involvement. He was later pardoned due to his status as one of Italy's top defenders.
After the scandal, Allemandi joined Ambrosiana (later Inter Milan), where he established himself as one of the team's key players. He won the Serie A title in 1930 and became a regular in the Italian national team, replacing Umberto Caligaris.
World Cup Triumph
In 1934, Allemandi helped Italy win the World Cup. He was part of the squad that defeated Czechoslovakia in the final. Allemandi's defensive skills played a crucial role in Italy's victory.
Later Career
In 1935, Allemandi moved to Roma, where he spent two seasons. He then played for Venezia and Lazio in Serie B. At Lazio, he made only two appearances before becoming the team's coach, a position he held for 11 games.
