Early Life and Youth Career

Born and raised in Avellino, Italy, Luigi Vitale began his football journey at the local club Avellino. After honing his skills there, he caught the attention of Serie A side Napoli, who acquired him in the summer of 2004.

Napoli Debut and Breakthrough

Vitale spent his first season in Naples with the youth team. On October 2, 2005, he made his Serie C1 debut for Napoli in a match against Juve Stabia. Shortly after, he notched his first goal for the club in a Coppa Italia fixture against Foggia on November 9. Vitale featured in several more Serie C1 and Coppa Italia matches during the 2005/2006 season.

Loan Spell and Return

The following season, Vitale's playing time was limited to two appearances, one in the league and one in the Coppa Italia. Seeking regular football, he was loaned out to Serie C1 club Virtus Lanciano for the 2007/2008 campaign, where he made 28 league appearances and one in the Coppa Italia.

Returning to Napoli in June 2008, Vitale made a quick impact. He debuted in the UEFA Intertoto Cup against Panionios and later in the UEFA Cup preliminary round against Vllaznia. On August 31, 2008, he made his Serie A debut against Roma.

Goal Scoring Prowess

Vitale's debut season in Serie A proved fruitful. He netted his first goal in a Coppa UEFA match against Benfica on September 18. On January 28, 2009, he scored his first Serie A goal against Fiorentina.

Loan to Livorno

In August 2009, Vitale was loaned out to Livorno. He made his debut against AC Milan, which ended in a goalless draw. Vitale played 22 matches for Livorno before returning to Napoli. The club faced the dilemma of whether to keep him on the roster or loan him out once more.
