Early Life and Career

Luigi Carlo Farini was an esteemed Italian historian and politician. In 1848, he ascended to prominence as the General Secretary of the provisional government of Modena.

Exile and Return

Amidst the ensuing political turmoil, Farini relocated to Piedmont, where he became a naturalized citizen and pursued a distinguished career as a professor of history and geography. In 1859, Count Camillo Benso di Cavour entrusted Farini with a clandestine mission to Modena. Farini later served as the king's extraordinary commissioner, seizing the Duchy of Modena and temporarily governing it until the arrival of a formal governor.

Political Achievements

Farini's political prominence continued to rise, as he held numerous significant government positions with honor and distinction. In 1853, he authored "Sommario della Storia d'Italia," a work that garnered widespread acclaim among the youth and went through multiple editions.

Historical Contributions

Farini's scholarly contributions were equally notable. Between 1866 and 1875, he published "Storia d'Italia dal 1850 al 1866," a continuation of the history written by Giuseppe La Farina. This work provided a detailed account of the events leading up to Italy's unification.
