Early Life and Education

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, in 1886, Rivera showed artistic talent from an early age. He began formal art training at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1903 and later traveled to Europe in 1909, where he influenced by modern art trends.

Political Activism and Murals

Returning to Mexico in 1921, Rivera joined the communist movement. He became actively involved in painting murals that depicted the country's social and political struggles. His famous murals, such as "The History of Mexico" at the Palacio Nacional, played a significant role in shaping Mexican cultural identity.

United States and Return to Mexico

In 1924, Rivera arrived in the United States where he painted murals in San Francisco and New York City. He returned to Mexico in 1926 to continue his mural work.

Personal Life and Collaborations

Sister Angelica Rivera married the renowned muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros. Rivera himself worked closely with Siqueiros and his brother, Leopoldo Rivera, on various projects, including the attempt to assassinate Leon Trotsky in 1940.
