Early Career
On August 31, 2007, Gustavo was loaned to Hoffenheim. He signed a contract until the summer of 2011 on April 1, 2008. In the 2008/09 season, he played 28 matches, with 27 of them being in the starting lineup. He received 12 yellow cards during this period. On September 18, 2010, he scored his first goal in the 1. Bundesliga against Kaiserslautern.
Move to Bayern Munich
