Slacklining - The New Extreme Sport
Slacklining is a relatively new extreme sport that involves walking on a loosely tensioned rope. It differs from tightrope walking in that the line is not pulled tight like a string, but rather, athletes balance on a sagging rope. There are different variations of slacklining, including tricklining (lowline), which is performed close to the ground, and highlining, where the line is set high above the ground, often in mountainous terrains. Waterlining involves walking on a slackline above water, while rodeo slacklining features a very loose line, with the rope sometimes exceeding the height of the athlete.

However, it wasn't until 2011, after graduating from university with a bachelor's degree in chemistry, that Irmler began training and competing more actively. Despite jokingly calling himself a "professional slacker," Irmler is highly respected in the world of slacklining.
The World Record Holder
In 2013, Lukas Irmler set a new world record by walking on a slackline at a height of 5,222 meters in the Peruvian Andes, surpassing the previous record of 4,600 meters held by Stefan Sigrist. Prior to Sigrist, a female extreme athlete held the record at 1,200 meters. Irmler's remarkable achievement solidified his position as one of the most experienced slackliners in the world.
Continued Success and Recent Achievements
Today, Irmler continues to push the boundaries of slacklining and highlining. He has participated in numerous major events and competitions in this young sport. Recently, he took part in a slacklining festival in the Dolomite Alps, where athletes showcased their agility and balancing skills at heights exceeding 2,000 meters. While sleeping in hammocks suspended at 2,300 meters during the festival may not have been as impressive for Irmler, who has experienced heights over 5,000 meters, it was a memorable experience for all participants. Safety precautions, including a backup rope, were strictly followed during the overnight stay.
