Madison Keeney: Australian Diving Champion

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Madison Keeney, born in 1996, was introduced to diving at the tender age of 10 by her mother. In 2013, she made her debut at the senior World Championships, competing in the 1-meter springboard event, where she placed 18th. However, she and Sharleen Stratton reached the final in the 3-meter synchronized diving event, finishing 8th.

Success at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships

Kiiney's first significant medals came at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where she claimed silver in the 1-meter springboard and bronze in the 3-meter synchronized diving with Annabelle Smith. At the 2015 World Championships, she qualified for both individual finals but placed 12th in the 1-meter event and 7th in the 3-meter event. Despite a disappointing final attempt, Kiiney and Grant Nel narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the mixed duet event.

Olympic Debut and Success

In 2016, Kiiney triumphed at the national Olympic selection, winning both the individual and synchronized 3-meter springboard events with Annabelle Smith. She made her Olympic debut in Rio that summer, where she scored an impressive bronze medal in the 3-meter synchronized diving with Smith. In the individual event, Kiiney overcame a slow start to finish in 5th place.

Continued Success

At the 2024 World Championships, Kiiney contributed to Australia's bronze medal in the team event. She has also exhibited her academic prowess, having graduated from the University of Queensland.

Personal Life

Kiiney is known for her personal qualities, including her determination, resilience, and passion for diving. She has become a role model for young athletes and has inspired many to pursue their dreams in the sport.
