The Ironman Triathlon Journey

Bader first completed the Ironman Triathlon at the age of 52, after being encouraged by her spiritual father, a priest, who saw it as a way to train the mind, body, and spirit. The Ironman Triathlon consists of a 2.4 km swim, a 180.25 km bike ride, and a marathon-distance 42.195 km run. Bader soon earned the nickname "Iron Nun" and claimed that she consistently finishes the race with the help of God.

Legacy and Inspirational Journey

Bader gained significant recognition in 2012 when she broke the record set by 81-year-old Lew Hollander in 2011. In her autobiographical book, "The Grace to Race: The Wisdom and Inspiration of the 80-Year-Old World Champion Triathlete Known as the Iron Nun," published in 2010, she shares her life story, her experience with over 300 triathlon races, and her faith, which gives her strength.

Approaching Old Age and Retirement

At the age of 89, Bader embraces her Christian humility and sees aging as bringing her closer to meeting her Creator. However, after the Ironman Triathlon in 2013, she decided to retire from competitive racing. While she no longer competes in swimming, cycling, and running, Bader continues to engage in these activities without the competitive aspect. The source of her strength, which allows her to conquer challenges that even healthy young people find daunting, lies in her faith in God.

Madonna Bader remains the oldest woman to have completed the Ironman Triathlon, a testament to her determination, training, and unwavering faith.
