Magda Gabor: A Biography

Magdolna "Magda" Gabor was an American socialite of Hungarian descent and an actress. She was born on June 11, 1918, although the exact date of her birth remains uncertain. Some sources claim she was born on June 11, 1915, or June 11, 1914. Others suggest July 1, 1914, or July 10, 1915. Confusion arises from the fact that Magda's younger sister, Eva, was born eight months after the assumed date of Magda's birth on February 11, 1919.

Marriages and Relationships

Magda Gabor was known for her numerous marriages. She tied the knot six times but did not have any children. From 1937 to 1946, she was married to Jan de Bichovsky, a Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot from the United Kingdom, who claimed to be a Polish count. William Rankin, Sidney R. Warren, and Arthur Gallucci became Magda's subsequent husbands. From December 5, 1970, to January 1971, she was married to British actor George Sanders, who was also her sister's ex-husband. Their marriage lasted only six weeks. Tibor Heltai became Magda's sixth and final husband from 1972 to 1973.

Gabor once mentioned that she greatly resembled her father, Vilmos. She shared his red hair, passionate temperament, intellectual mindset, and love for literature. In 1937, she married a Polish man named Bichovsky, who later joined the Royal Air Force and was shot down in 1946. It is said that Magda was also engaged to the Portuguese ambassador in Budapest and had a deep love affair with him. Thanks to her connection with the ambassador, the actress aided in saving the lives of 240 Jewish families during World War II.

Early Years and Acting Career

Magda Gabor visited the United States with her parents to see her younger sister, Eva, who had been living in America since 1939. Describing her arrival, Zsa Zsa Gabor stated, "Magda, tall and slender, with green eyes, speaking eleven languages, an equestrian and brilliant tennis player, embarked on an acting career and won roles in various plays."

Death

Magda Gabor passed away on June 6, 1997, at the age of 78, in Palm Springs, California, due to kidney failure.
